Trespassing the USA
This is the land of the FREE???? I just spoke with this woman, Dianna Volk, who gathered a group of people with their horses after 9/11 and did a ride through Montana , Wyoming and South Dakota. They raised money for the victims in NYC as they rode. I was put in touch with her by a mutual acquaintance to help me figure out details for my trip. Dianna went with a support vehicle that would go ahead of the horses to assess what to do. She obtained permits from the Departments of Transportation for traveling along the interstate and also the support vehicle had flashing lights for stopping traffic when needed, etc. also the support vehicles would go on ahead and alert the town papers/media that the horse were coming and sometimes the town would organize events to celebrate. ..
Now, I'm deciding on how private I want to be or not. I don't really want to be traveling along interstates so much, although it might be unavoidable sometimes. She encouraged me to contact other horse organizations ,like saddle clubs , who would probably have loads of information available. I need to start contacting folks like this and drawing a rough map of where to go. She did have a good suggestion about breaking up the trip instead of going nonstop east coast to west coast, which I'm thinking about. Like what if I made it to Kentucky and parked my horse/horses there and lived there for awhile? Nomadic style...hmmmm then I could work in the summers in the Hamptons doing massage and take off again in September.
Yesterday I was disheartened thinking about how borders and property ownership and permits may be a serious obstacle, like should I even bother? Then again, maybe I should just not bother asking permission...heh heh
Eustace Conway style....more on that, another day.
